gonna push back on the Vantablack comparison. the exclusive license wasn’t borne out of pure greed or whatever, it was a collaborative agreement between Kapoor and Surrey NanoSystems, the company who invented the substance. most artists wouldn’t really want it anyway; it’s not a regular paint or pigment, it’s a material which is complicated & expensive to produce, and is primarily used for industrial or scientific applications. that’s partly why it was an ’exclusive’ artist license, cause SNS would only make deals on a per-client basis, after assessing that it was a meaningful application of Vantablack
