@1:03:00 I really do wish that people WOULD see Valve that way, not because I hate Steam or anything inherently but because as you guys said... they’re a corporation. Private or public doesn’t really matter, they almost always get into this kind of behavior eventually. But people are so enamored by Valve and their Steam libraries that they’ll defend it instinctively. I’ve already seen the sentiments claiming the allegations are ridiculous, despite the evidence on MANY subreddits at this point, and a few other forums. Which is really sad. Because no, they aren’t anyone’s friend. But the attacking companies are hated, Valve is loved, and so here we are. It’s all such a shame, too... because Valve absolutely does have some monopoly powers and their locking of games to their platform as well is 100% DRM, which people hate, except when Valve does it, because their the PC darling. People often discuss ownership and target publishers as if they can somehow attack every one of them lack a game of wack-a-mole, and Valve somehow never gets a mention (or very seldom does) as a force against this. If people went after the source that funnels them all, they’d have better success. Frankly, Valve has had years to do something similar to what CDPR’s GOG offers with its DRM-Free policy and offline permanent installers, and even better than CDPR, Valve’s got the market power to enforce it universally across the space. But they don’t do that and won’t because that’s not in their interest as a corporation... they are a platform and they’d like to chain people to them. And of course, GOG only still offers it because it’s a competitive advantage. If they took top spot somehow they’d denounce such a DRM-Free policy in a heartbeat. But I guess that’s the point here... companies are never your friend. Sadly, people get a few benefits out of a company and then they swear almost complete fealty and even go so far as to defend them, with nary a question. And that’s a huge shame.
